I Was a Teenage Exocolonist Wiki

Dys is a third-generation member of the Vertumna Colony who arrived on the Stratospheric along with the player character, and one of the romanceable options of I Was A Teenage Exocolonist.

Profile[]

A socially inept individual who'd rather spend his time interacting with Vertumna's intricate ecosystem than willingly linger within the colony's walls.

Introduction[]

During the intro sequence, choosing Dys as your childhood friend will provide a starting bonus of +5 Bravery and +5 Perception, as well as +10 Friendship with him.

There's an extra prompt where Dys goes missing during dinner, the player is given the option to find him, cover for him, or tell Auntie Seedent and Tangent where he is.

  • Search for him. +5 Perception and +2 Friendship.
  • Cover for him. +5 Persuasion, +10 Rebellion, and +2 Friendship.
  • Tell them where he is. +5 Organizing and +10 Loyalty.

After the ship lands and the player wakes up in the med-bay, if the player gains 20 points in either Bravery or Toughness before age 13, they will be able to walk up to the gates and unlock the "I'm brave enough" or "I'm tough enough" dialogue option when the Chief Surveyor claims they're not allowed outside. After choosing either of these options, they will hear "Pst! Over here!" and Dys will guide the player to a drainpipe that is large enough for children to climb through and sneak out, unlocking the "Sneak out" option.

Similarly, if the player is able to raise their friendship with Dys to or above 20 by the time Tangent asks them about Dys' whereabouts, the player can convince Dys to tell them where he's been running off to and he will show them the drain pipe.

I Dare You To...[]

The player can unlock these interactions with Dys based on how much Bravery they've acquired over the course of their gameplay.

Eat this worm![]

"Oh yeah?" Dys counters. "Well, I double dare you to eat a warm!" You can't just turn down a double dare. You're no meek little hopeye!

Slimy, unsatisfying. Very, very gross. Dys eats his like a noodle, slurping it up and wrinkling his nose as it wriggles in his mouth. "Yuck," he says, swallowing it whole, then shows you his empty mouth. You should have known better than to dare a person who fears nothing.

Go into the Restricted Area![]

You dare Dys to explore the creepiest darkest part of engineering, deep down where even Chief Engineer Instance never goes, under the recycling room where they say there are ghosts.

You set the mood, then sneak around behind him, put your holopalm flashlight under your face and shout: boo!

He rolls his eyes. "[Player], think about it. If there were ghosts on this spaceship, one of them would be my mom."

Oh. Yeah, you guess that would scare a normal person, but Dys still isn't scared of anything.

Tell me what's up with you and Tang?[]

You gulp and bravely dare him to tell you... what's the deal between him and his sister?

"What about her," Dys scowls, digging the toe of his boot into the dirt. "She's smart, and perfect, and everyone loves her."

You wait patiently. Sometimes being brave means sitting in the silence.

Eventually, Dys crosses him arms and shrinks in on himself. "When Tang got her genome therapy, all anyone wanted to talk about was how I shouldn't be sad about 'losing' my brother."

"Like they had to tell me that?" Dys says, huffing indignantly. "Um, I'm her twin...? I knew she was a girl, like, five minutes after she did. She's always been my sister," he explains.

"She's always known who she is. But like... that was the problem..." Dys says. He picks at a loose thread of his sleeve. "She's so... mature, you know? And I'm... not. So she treats me more like a dumb little pet than her brother, telling me what to do and acting like she's so much smarter than me."

He rubs his face. "I mean, she is smarter than me. She's smarter than everyone, even the adults. But that doesn't mean she knows what's best for everyone."

Dys lapses into silence. You wait a little longer to see if he wants to share any more, but Dys seems intent on just staring off into the wilderness again.

Afterwards, it doesn't matter if the player talks to Sym or Dys, both characters will give the option of bringing Dys back to the colony or joining him as a Gardener.
